Tudor Caravan Park - Gloucester/Sharpness Canal

A lovely family campsite situated alongside the Gloucester/Sharpness Canal. The canal is not directly accessible from the campsite, you need to walk back out the entrance, through the pub car park and over the bridge to access the tow path side of this shipping canal.

The bream and roach fishing here is excellent, the canal is deep, between 12-20ft due to it being a shipping canal. Pole, Waggler and feeder all produce well with maggot, worm, corn and pellet all producing well. target just down the ledge into the boat channel with the pole or feeder to the moored boats.

Due to the high levels of silver fish this canal also has a large predator population, Pike and Perch are present in number with a few Zander along this section (the Zander are more prolific nearer to Gloucester). Dropshot, jigs and worm all produce for perch. Livebaits for Pike are by far the best method then lures and Deadbaits. Target the areas near the bridge, both sides and near moored boats.

We stayed during half term in October 2015, I wanted my boys to have a go at lure fishing for Pike and we did well catching a lot of jacks to 7lb and I had a larger fish spit the lure back at me after turning under the surface, mid double I'd say. Early morning and late evening were the most productive times on lures and 200 yards either side of the bridge were the most productive areas, in the summer the fish will spread out abit more. I did have pike further a field but time was better spent near the bridge and the moored boats offering cover for the baitfish in the winter.
