Ninham Farm - Lakes (2)

Ninham Farm on the Isle of Wight is where I came up with the ideal of Onsite Fishing and purchased the domain in June 2016 - but why here?

 

Well, we had planned a family holiday to the Isle of Wight, the first time camping here having had 2 previous visits where we fell in love with the island. I had planned to fish at Adgestone and had not planned to fish here, in fact if you look on the website you will not even know that the site offers fishing onsite other then a fish icon on the lake on the map/site layout. So it was only by luck that I came across the two farm ponds that you can fish, exclusively for campers but at a small charge.

 

There are 2 mature farm ponds the bigger having 2 islands but will only accommodate 4-5 anglers, the smaller lake 2-3 anglers. The smaller lake has an island and is the deeper of the two with depths of up to 4-5 ft, whereas the large lake is badly silted at one end and I could not find any water deeper than 2ft.

 

The smaller lake is densely populated with small fish and carp to 8lb and the larger lake is mainly carp to 10lb which were great sport in the shallow water, infact when you got a take the water erupted as the carp bolted. i used a few free offerings around the hookbait and caught steadily all day. Also stalking with surface baits worked well on both lakes.

 

i liked the fact that you were given a flag to show that you had paid your day ticket for the day, a nice little touch.
