Cashel (CITF) - Loch Lomond

Cashel is a lovely campsite on the banks of the mighty Loch Lomond which is famous for its Pike fishing. I used lures and fished from the bank with no success, the main issue being the shallow water in the edge and the bottom being very rocky. A long cast gets you into very deep water but you then have issues getting up over the ledge without catching the rocks. The rocky outcrop to the far right of the campsite was less problematic, it deepens off quickly and offers good prospect for bait fishing for pike as well as other coarse fish. Natural baits will work well for perch, eels and trout.

If you are fortunate enough to have a boat then there is a great boat launch here meaning the possibilities are endless; there is one of many islands directly in front of the site and the bay to the right looks good. Trolling around the edge of the loch where it deepens off would be a good starting point for those looking to catch pike but not in possession of a fishfinder to map out the bottom and find bait fish.

Loch Lomond is a wild water so it goes without saying that the fishing can be hard but very rewarding.
