Lakeside (Camarthenshire) - River Dewi Fawr

This is a lovely little campsite with pitches spread around a lake and the River Dewi Fawr. The lake itself contains no fish and is extremely weedy, when I spoke with the owner he said that he had looked into stocking it however due to the proximity of the River he could only stock fish native to the River which only contains trout.

Sea Trout and Salmon are also present in the river that the Dewi Fawr is a tributary to so you never know.

If you like the challenge of fishing for trout in a small river that meanders around the campsite then this is ideal. A light spinning rod or 7ft fly rod would be the best approach with small spinners and lures or more traditional flies would do the trick. Worm fishing will also work well. Stealth and accurate casting will be needed on this small tree lined river. A pair of Polaroids will be essential as you will be sight fishing for the most part, dawn and dusk being the best times.

I didn't fish when we stayed here as it was a last minute stop off but if we go back I will definitely give it a go!
